La La Land

I’ve been traveling for work a lot, which can get lonely, so I always make an effort to bring a good book, charge my ipod, and treat myself to something “bad” in the airport… a candy bar… a cocktail or two…

But yesterday, I had the pleasure of going to LA with some of my FAVORITE co-workers… naturally, the rental car place did not have any more compact four-doors, and so we ended up with a convertible mustang… and so there we were!  Cruising around town to all our meetings, top down, music up.  Felt like I was 16 again, – footloose and fancy free

Spring Blooms

Trader Joe’s is my source for flowers – they are cheap, and they stock seasonal flowers.  On this gloomy Monday, as I was wandering the aisles on my lunch break, I discovered that Ranunculus are in season, and promptly bought several bunches.
I love their soft springtime scent, and their many layers of petals – they remind me of little ballerina tutus or full party skirts.  I love that they have multiple flowers branching off each stem, and that when they are simply plopped into a vase, they look natural, and wild, and perfect.  I love that they are lovely in every color – white, yellow, pink and orange.  I love that their buds are cute and tucked in, and that they continue to bloom as time passes.
What a treat to start the week!

Birthday Traditions

Birthday cupcake :)
It’s so funny how everyone has different birthday traditions.  When we were little, there were things we’d do every single year that made that one day “special.”  My sister and I would make a point to wake up earlier than the other, pounce on the birthday girl’s bed, and administer the birthday spankings.  I laugh now – everyone I tell thinks it’s so weird, but that’s what we did!  We’d bring cupcakes to our class, get special birthday privileges at school, and we got to choose whatever we wanted to have for dinner.  Mine was always tacos.  My sister would always choose lasagna.

As an adult, a lot of that fades, but my new birthday tradition is to be sure that I take the day off work to pamper myself.  I want to be sure not to bring home the stress of the job, so that that one day doesn’t feel like any other work day.  I’m pretty sure that telling my clients to stop complaining because it’s my birthday is not going to fly… so today, to kick 28 off right, I am treating myself to a full fat caramel latte, heading to Dry Bar for a fabulous birthday blow-out, and then navigating downtown for some retail therapy.

I can’t wait!

Happy Monday!

What a glorious long weekend!  The weather was warm and sunny in the mid-70’s.  I flounced about in a sundress, saw lovely friends, ate delicious food, hung out with my parents, went to the beach, and FINALLY finished a project that was a long time in the making!  I cannot even explain the satisfaction… more on that later!

Happy Monday!

Heaven is… a serene poolside (with a margarita)

pool, lounge chairs & cocktails

We got some serious rain today and last night, and I am in need of some warm weather!  Kris and I are throwing around the idea of a vacation this fall, but I don’t know if I can wait that long!!  I need a stack of magazines, some hot sunny days, and a teeny bikini stat!
I’ve been looking on one of my newest obsessions, Houzz.com, (I call it dream home porn), and am so entranced by these lovely backyard pools.  Summer isn’t too far off, and as SF isn’t known for it’s fabulous summer weather, I am getting rather jealous looking at these heavenly poolside escapes.
I’m beginning to think that these might really be what heaven looks like…
