Birthday Outfit: Fashion Inspiration

Oh gosh, I’ve been trying not to think about it, but my birthday is just around the corner!  While I am lining up dates, and making plans to celebrate, I need to start thinking about what to wear.  While I’m not going to go out and buy a new wardrobe, I put together a few fun fashion inspirations to get my creative juices flowing…

DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY:
Coral and aqua… yup, I went there… again.  I just can’t get over this combo!!  It’s fun, and bright… puts you in the mood to salsa with a stranger, or party it up at a gay club (gay men seriously love me… it’s true).

Rent the Runway

This site has blown up in the past year, and while I have yet to use it, all my friends have been saying FABULOUS things about it forever.  With my twenty-eighth birthday just around the corner, I think this might be the time to test it out.  In short the concept is: pick an occasion where you want to look jaw-droppingly stunning, rent a dress, pay 10% of the full price, no penalty for damages, cleaning, etc.

Not too shabby when they are offering up Zac Posen, Herve Leger, Halston Heratage, Badgley Mischka… you get the idea.  My birthday is just about two weeks away, and so I have some serious decisions to make… I’ve narrowed it down from about 40 options to about 7… not bad.

Variations of Sweet and Flirty:

Sassy Versions of the Carrie Dress
Something a Little Sexier
So each category is pretty different, right?  One is more demure, one screams I’m going to party my way from 27 to 28, and the third is somewhere in the middle.  All the dresses have great reviews, so I am really torn.  Perhaps I should do two?  Oh the woe’s of trying to stick to my “budget”.

Fashion Inspiration: Aqua & Coral

I am 100% obsessed with the combination of aqua and coral (in case you couldn’t tell from all my Valentine’s Day posts).  Pink and blue is such a natual combination, and as the seasons change from winter to fall, warm sunny days totally call for a splash of color.  The weather isn’t yet warm enough for a full summer outfit, so a jacket will most likely be required for the days, but how perfect for work, or brunch, or just a stroll about town.
Keep scrolling for wardrobe inspiration… you will find yourself fully enamored with how easily aqua and coral pair up!

Lady Like Elegance: Splurge vs. Save

I’ve been spending more and more time on Polyvore, and find myself totally drawn to the super expensive designer shoes, handbags, and clothing.  Obviously, its easy to make fabulous outfits out of Valentino, Gucci, and Manolo, but I’ve decided that for every FABULOUS designer outfit I put together for inspiration, I match it with the budget version that normal people can actually afford.

The first installment is the ultra lady-like outfit.  Peplum screams “I’m a lady” since it nips in the waist, and flatters the natural curve of a woman’s body (or enhances if its you are lacking in the curve department).  The Splurge version of this outfit will cost upwards of $20,000.  Crazy right?  Unfortunately that Chanel bag’s price isn’t listed, but its at least $10K.  At least.

SPLURGE:

The Dream - Lady Like Elegance

Mulberry beige shirt, $600
Valentino gauze skirt, £747
Christian louboutin shoes, $625
Chanel quilted handbag
Marco Bicego gold engraved jewelry, $5,610
Forzieri gold earrings, $1,194
Cartier jewelry, 1,572 CAD

Now take a look at the “Save” version of this same look.  Still cute, still lady-like, but a heck of a lot more affordable!  From head to toe, this is $400 – $500.

SAVE:

Look for Less - Lady Like Elegance

Peplum top, $17
Paul Costelloe knee length pencil skirt, £39
MICHAEL Michael Kors studded heels, $120
Python handbag, $89
Majorica south sea pearl earrings, $75
Jon Richard chunky jewelry, £40
Banana republic jewelry, $50

Obviously a lot of us have the staples to this look – you could substitute the pearls for CZ studs, or grab that cute black clutch you use out on the town.  I love playing around with looks, because maybe it’s just the peplum top you are looking for, to pair with your own pencil skirt and sky high heels, or maybe you’ve got a great peplum top, but have been looking for something to wear it with.  I look in my own closet and there is never anything to wear!  Now, I can look to the designers who know what they are doing, and model looks after the runway!

Lazy Day

Lazy Day

If this isn’t the perfect outfit for running errands, grabbing lunch, or hitting the stores to look for a new sofa (aka, my exact plans for this Saturday), then I don’t know what is – warm slouchy sweater, dark dark dark skinny blue jeans, and blush everywhere – in the bag, bracelet, ballerina flats, and scarf.  Chilly weather just hit San Francisco, and I am not going anywhere without something wrapped around my neck!

To continue with my countdown to Valentine’s, I thought it might be fun to put together a few outfits that would be perfect for the days leading up to V-Day (and in case you haven’t noticed, I have a total thing for reds & pinks paired with aqua – LOVE)

Fashion Obsession to Reality: Leopard Print Scarf

So it’s been a while since this series, since I’ve been so consumed with our apartment, but don’t think I fogot about my Spring fashion obsessions.  This was the first look that really consumed me since it’s the most practical for the cool San Francisco weather. Now if only I could look so effortlessly chic in 20 minutes…

FASHION OBSESSION

FASHION REALITY:

Here it is – an ultra glam shot taken by my iPhone on my friend’s bed post shopping bonanza.

Zara Leopard Scarf Photograph
And here it is on the model… adorable! (and can I say, I am in LOVE with her studded gloves).  It’s only $20 from Zara!  It’s made of really thin cotton, which is perfect since It’s a very large scarf – it drapes beautifully so its over-sized without the bulk!  Tres affordable!
