The Comeback of the One Piece

Summer is coming to a close in most parts of the country, which means that it’s back to school time for most families.  That’s why September is one of my favorite times to vacation – all the kiddos are back in school, so the resorts and beaches have fewer tantrum throwing toddlers.  AMEN to that!! With vacation on the brain, let’s talk about swimsuits, shall we?

While I still love a good bikini, I know I’m not the only one who has been on a vacation, chowing down on tacos and margaritas, and wishing for a little more… “coverage” in the tummy area.  Am I right??  I’ve spotted A LOT of really amazing options out there with retro cuts, figure flattering shapes, and deep plunging necklines…

I pulled together a few of my favorites:

One Pieces

Mink Pink one piece swimsuit, $115 / ASOS one piece swimsuit, $54 / La Blanca one piece swimsuit / ASOS one piece swimsuit, $44 / Zimmermann one piece swimsuit / Topshop one piece swimsuit / Lisa Marie Fernandez one piece swimsuit / Miraclesuit one piece swimsuit, $220 / Caffé Swimwear one piece swimsuit / Topshop one piece swimsuit / CHROMAT one piece swimsuit / Roksanda Ilincic one piece swimsuit / Melissa Odabash one piece swimsuit

I have so many favorites in this bunch, it’s hard to narrow it down!!

I mean, the red and hot pink number is A-MA-ZING, and the color-blocked waist will visually shrink your middle.    The retro shapes are also so awesome – the strapless styles, that have a corseted look and feel are so “South Pacific”.  The black with the white piping and the tropical top with the navy bottom is also adorable.

I actually ordered the navy plunge one-piece from ASOS, and hope it fits!  (never know with European sizing…)

So what do you think?? Would you rock a one-piece on your next vacation, or stick with the bikini??

Grilled Peach Summer Salad

So… how amazing does this look???

Grilled peaches?  I say yes please to that smoky caramelized flavor!  I came upon this recipe on the blog Feasting at Home, and it’s officially been added into the queue for summer recipes.  Let’s be honest… nothing says “summer” better than a perfectly sweet, juicy peach.

Here’s a little tip to help you find the best peaches… pick out your fruit by smell.  This is actually how you should pick out all stone fruit – apricots, peaches, nectarines (by the way, this salad would be fantastic with nectarines as well) – these fruits taste the way they smell, so if there is little smell to the peach, it won’t taste like much at all.

For this salad, here’s what you need…

   – Peaches
   – Goat Cheese
   – Basil (she uses purple basil)
   – Arugula
   – Nasturtium petals (to be fancy of course)
   – Balsamic vinegar
   – Olive oil
   – Salt
   – Pepper
   – Agave

The directions are painfully simple, although some of the ingredients might be harder to come by.  The original recipe used white balsamic vinegar in the dressing, but I’m sure regular balsamic would be great.  Nasturtium petals are not going to make or break this dish, but if you have them on hand, or you’re really trying to impress company, track those bad boys down!

Ok, so cut the peaches in half, and take out the pits.  Coat in olive oil, and put in the grill for for about 5 minutes, juicy side down.

While those grill away, mix up the dressing, whisking all the ingredients in a large bowl.  Toss in the arugula and basil, and coat the leaves evenly.  Arrange on a flat platter for a pretty presentation.

Take the peaches off the grill and cut into thin slices.  Arrange on top of the greens, and finish off the salad with the flower petals.  The picture below also includes watercress and toasted almond slices… get creative! It’s your salad!

For a heartier version, I’d add grilled chicken – avocado would also be yummy in here too.  Unfortunately for me, we have zero outdoor space, so we won’t be able to use a grill with a flame, but an indoor grill would work just as well.

I’m hungry just thinking about it!

Yellow Polka-dot Bikini – Fashion Inspiration

It was an itsy, bitsy, teeny, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini, that she wore for the first time today…
I’m pretty sure that ever since that song was released, the sweetly-sexy yellow bikini has been in production around the clock.  Taking inspiration from the spring and summer runways, along with the every traditional retro bikini cuts, I’ve been on the hunt for an itsy bitsy bikini of my own.
Apparently Victoria’s Secret got the memo!!  Whether it has a ruffled bottom or a truly itsy-bitsy triangle top, I am facing a very difficult decision narrowing down between these teeny bikinis!

I am loving the retro vibe from this sweetheart halter, and the mix of stripes and dots is so cute!  The removable strap for tanning is also a little TOO convenient!
The yellow polka-dot bikini gets an update here with neon yellow ruffles and string ties and gold polka dots – a sassy statement for any beach or pool!

A true classic – the tie on the top gives this bikini a nautical feel, and what girl doesn’t want a little push up padding to help things along??
The ruffled edges on this little number would work well to enhance a small bust, however I’m not loving the sea foam green ties on the bottoms… nothing a little snip of the scissors can’t fix!

With a thick halter strap, and a thick band below the bust, this bikini will stay where you put it – perfect for a little vollyball on the beach – just be sure to double knot those bottoms!
